HIT Entertainment Picks Digex Hosting

January 21, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed Web and application hosting provider Digex Inc. (Digex.com) announced on Tuesday that family entertainment company HIT Entertainment Plc has chosen Digex to host and manage its Internet infrastructure and online store.

HIT Entertainment, says Digex, is an integrated global studio, with divisions in the UK, US, Canada, Germany and Japan, including broadcast production and distribution, video and audio sales, consumer products licensing and marketing. The company controls rights for popular children’s properties including Angelina Ballerina, Barney, Bob the Builder, Kipper, Pingu and Thomas & Friends.

According to Digex, HIT Entertainment sought to market its popular characters on the Internet to make them more accessible to their global base of fans. After estimating 14 million page views per year, says Digex, the company is on track to receive 140 million page views, in part because of the improved infrastructure.

Digex says it is managing the entire platform on a multi-server Windows 2000 environment with a SQL Server 2000 database and Akamai Edgesuite for content delivery. HIT is also using Digex’s Commerce Solution to handle commerce and brand management.
