March 11, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IP services and content distribution provider Highwinds Network (highwinds.com) announced on Tuesday it has closed a $55 million round of equity financing led by venture capital firm, General Catalyst Partners (generalcatalyst.com), and private equity firm, Alta Communications (altacomm.com).
For over five years, Highwinds has provided content replication and delivery software and services, such as network management, distributed file system technology and advanced content routing methods. This new financing will fund Highwinds’ infrastructure build-out of its RollingThunder network, which includes a content delivery network offering.
The company has partnered with hardware and software solutions provider Digital Rapids (digital-rapids.com) and IPTV network provider Knack Networks (knacknetworks.com/) to launch the RollingThunder network, which develops advanced IPTV solutions for professional media companies. Using the RollingThunder network, video distribution solutions can be operated on both live and on-demand channels direct to the subscriber’s home or office.
“Having attracted top-tier investors, we can accelerate our ability to meet the rapidly growing demand for innovation in the market for IP services and delivery of rich media content,” says Steve Miller, Highwinds’ president and CEO. “We are well-capitalized to bring an unparalleled infrastructure solution to market for service providers, corporations, content owners and other organizations implementing IP services, content delivery and other strategies to increase revenue and profitability, improve customer relations, enhance competitive position, expand market share and achieve other key business goals.”
Highwinds will be demonstrating the content delivery solutions at IPTV conference and trade show, IPTV World Forum (iptv-forum.com/), held March 12 to 14 in London, UK. The company says it plans to begin Beta site implementations of these offerings on both the Highwinds and Knack Networks customer sites in April.
