Hibernia Offers Trans-Atlantic Native 40 Gbps Capacity

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Submarine transport cable provider Hibernia Atlantic (www.hiberniaatlantic.com) has opened the first native 40 Gbps wavelength capacity, trans-Atlantic connection for commercial use.

According to its Thursday announcement, Hibernia’s deployment of the latest 40G network technology has increased the potential capacity of its Atlantic system to 10.16Tbps.

This first-to-market offering is in response to customer demand in North America for greater bandwidth capacity and the rise in next-generation services, such as streaming video, IP multimedia and web conferencing, as well as financial exchanges and media houses, which need secure, high-performance capacity to ensure they are meeting their industries’ critical network requirements.

“This latest achievement displays Hibernia’s continued commitment to deploy the most advanced, innovative capacity upgrades for commercial use across the Hibernia cable system,” Hibernia Atlantic chief executive officer Bjarni Thorvardarson said in a statement. “This offering provides global investment banks, CDNs, broadcasters, international PTTs and ISPs in need of high-bandwidth a better network solution. With increased capacity, on a reliable network at wholesale prices, companies can continue to deploy streaming video and other next-generation applications and services over the Hibernia Atlantic network, with confidence and ease.”

Hibernia sales and marketing executive vice president Eric Gutshall said native 40 Gbps connectivity across the Atlantic gives customers additional capacity, which provides added network efficiency for communication over Hibernia’s diverse and secure cable route. “This new sub-sea advancement is another example of Hibernia Atlantic’s commitment to providing the highest levels of network performance, innovation and customer satisfaction to the market, in record-breaking time,” Gutshall said in a statement.

The native 40 Gbps capacity helps clients on both sides of the Atlantic. Recently, Hibernia has been pursuing an aggressive European expansion with the addition of industry veteran Fergus Innes as European vice president of sales, and the increase of its sales force with new team members throughout Amsterdam, London and Paris as the company further increases its network footprint in Europe. Hibernia hopes to attract European business, government and wholesale sectors.
