(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Submarine transport cable provider Hibernia Atlantic (www.hiberniaatlantic.com) announced on Wednesday it is launching service on its new route between Amsterdam and its 37 points of presence in North America.
According to the press release, the Hibernia Atlantic network provides its European and North American customers with “direct transAtlantic connectivity using a unique network footprint that avoids traditional, congested waterways around New York and London, and instead offers security through physical diversity, with northern routes that minimize risk and deliver additional redundancy.”
The announcement follows news earlier this month that Hibernia Atlantic will build a new cable network for the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment for Northern Ireland and the Department Communications, Energy and Natural Resources for the Republic of Ireland.
The network offers a low latency express route that crosses the Atlantic and completely bypasses London’s typically congested terrestrial fiber routes.
As a result, the new Amsterdam to Boston route now has a latency of 74 milliseconds, making it the fastest available route. Additionally, the network offers the fastest route between Amsterdam and Dublin.
Using its northern cable, Hibernia’s new network bypasses London’s traditional backhaul by offering an alternate express route that cuts two milliseconds off the latency on the existing London to Amsterdam route.
The new North London bypass intercepts Hibernia’s existing network between Southport and London at Peterborough, approximately 115 miles North of London.
From there it extends eastward to Pakenham where the new constructed route meets Hibernia’s existing cable to Amsterdam, approximately 93 miles North of London.
“This new route is attractive for any business that requires direct, low latency connectivity between North America and Europe at competitive rates,” says Bjarni Thorvardarson, CEO for Hibernia Atlantic. “Financial firms, movie studios, IP providers and data storage companies requiring a fast, diverse connection over the Atlantic while avoiding London are among some of the enterprise customers that can benefit from the new route, as well as global carriers.”

Hibernia Atlantic provides a transAtlantic submarine and terrestrial cable network with over 68 redundant network POPs throughout Canada, US, UK and Europe, and cable landing stations in Dublin, Boston, Halifax, Nova Scotia and Liverpool, UK.
The company offers dedicated Ethernet and optical-level service up to GigE, 10G and LanPhy wavelengths and traditional Sonet/SDH services.
