HE Extends PoP to Equinix Facilities in Asia, Europe

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation and Internet backbone provider Hurricane Electric (www.he.net) and data center operator Equinix (www.equinix.com) announced on Thursday that Hurricane Electric will extend its points of presence to additional Equinix International Business Exchange data centers beyond the United States.

The announcement follows Lexent Metro Connect’s connection of two New Jersey Equinix International Business Exchange data centers and carrier hotels in Manhattan.

The expansion to Equinix’s Toyko-2, Hong Kong-1 and Zurich-1 data centers will help improve Hurricane Electric’s fault tolerance, load balancing and congestion management infrastructure capabilities for the delivery of next-generation IP access services.

Additionally, Equinix customers will be able to peer with Hurricane Electric’s global Internet backbone which is interconnected with more than 500 associated IPv6 backbones.

The global expansion into Asia and Europe comes at an opportune time, as demand for IPv6 content continues to increase in these markets.

By using Equinix’s network-rich data centers to deploy network nodes, Hurricane Electric will provide next-generation and reliable IP access services for its customers.

“We are delighted to further expand our relationship with Equinix,” says Martin Levy, director of IPv6 strategy at Hurricane Electric. “Our growing global footprint through Equinix will give our customers the geographic reach and extended IPv6 functionality they are demanding.”

First deploying IPv6 on its global backbone in 2001, Hurricane Electric is one of the few global Internet backbones that is IPv6-native and does not rely on internal tunnels for its IPv6 connectivity.

The company offers IPv6 as a core service, providing every customer with IPv6 connectivity, as well as classic IPv4 connectivity.
