Google Launches Google Base

November 18, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Search giant Google (google.com) announced this week that it had launched Google Base, a free online service that hosts searchable user-submitted content. The service is in beta testing and is available at base.google.com

“The goal of Google Base is to improve the overall quality and breadth of Google Search results by collecting even more information about a wider diversity of content,” the company said.

Google says the service works like a database. Users can post items and assign attributes – such as keywords or images – to the information they upload to better match search queries.

The information may also be indexed in Google’s main search engine and other searchable services such as Froogle and Google Local, the company says.

Google says Google Base is the latest service that complements its mission to make the world’s information easier to organize and search through.
