October 1, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Google Inc. (Google.com) announced on Monday that it has released updates to its corporate search products designed to help IT administrators easily deploy search services in secure computing environments with fresher results and increased index capacity.
The company also announced the release of its GB-5005 Google Search Appliance hardware model designed for organizations that require high-availability search service of up to 3 million documents. According to Google, the Google Search Appliance is an integrated corporate search solution that extends the company?s technology to intranets and websites.
Among the enhancements to the Search Appliance family of products, says Google, are the ability to search secure content; fresher results; increased capacity; and new hardware.
Along with the product releases, Google also announced that it is gaining momentum with its corporate search products, signing a series of new Search Appliance customers including the US Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory, US Department of Education, the California Department of Transportation, the state of Indiana, Kaiser Permanente, University of Michigan College of Engineering, Medtronic Inc, and others.
