Google Hires Data Center Design Veteran Daniel Costello

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Google (www.google.com) recently revealed that data center design veteran Daniel Costello joined the company’s data center staff, according to a report by Data Center Knowledge.

“We’re excited to welcome Dan to our infrastructure team,” said a Google spokesperson. “He has a great track record working with Microsoft and Intel, and we’re happy to have him on board.”

Costello most recently served as the director of data center services for Microsoft Global Foundation Services.

During his three years at Microsoft, Costello played an integral role in the development of the company’s use of shipping containers and modular design in its most recent data center projects.

These projects included the use of pre-assembled parts that could be constructed at factories and then built onsite at a data center.

Prior to joining Microsoft, Costello worked at Intel in the company’s global facility services DC engineering division.

Google uses its data centers to host application services, including its popular Gmail email platform.

Last year the company revealed details behind its Data Center A in The Dalles, Oregon, which features a container hanger equipped with 45 containers that can each hold up to 1,160 servers.
