Google Announces New Appliance Customers

August 13, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Google (google.com) announced yesterday the addition of several new customers for its Google Search Appliance (GSA), a combination hardware/software solution that extends Google?s popular search technology to Web sites and corporate intranets.

The new customers represent a wide range of industries and include Pfizer, Xerox, Hitachi Data Systems, Nextel Communications, Procter & Gamble, Discovery Communications, the U. S. Army, the San Diego Union-Tribune, and the City of San Diego.

The Google Search Appliance was launched in 2002.

“In just over one year, we’ve proven that the Google Search Appliance is an effective search solution for a wide range of companies and institutions,” said Joan Braddi, Google’s vice-president of search services. “The Google Search Appliance is the search engine that CIOs, IT and business managers need. It’s simple and it delivers high-quality results at a price that fits their business objectives.”

The company also reported that its growing list of GSA customers has contributed to a 200 percent increase in sales over the past year.
