Verio Attracts Resellers with Free Month of VPS Hosting: Companies looking to boost revenues are finding Verio's Free VPS promotion the right fit for getting started as Hosting Reseller.

February 17, 2003 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- According to reports released over the weekend, major search engine operator Google has purchased San Francisco-based Pyra Labs, the company responsible for creating some of the earliest technology for producing the enormously popular online journals known as weblogs.

The Google purchase will lend additional credibility to the budding publishing style that has already begun to affect the dissemination of information throughout the Internet. Weblogs are often subject-specific, are updated frequently, invite feedback and usually incorporate numerous links to other Web sites and weblogs.

Pyra's Blogger software currently has 1.1 million registered users, 200,000 of whom are estimated to be actively operating weblogs. The software is used to power the popular Blog*Spot weblog hosting service, also operated by Pyra.

Google said it is thrilled about the possibilities presented by the purchase and the opportunities for the two companies, although it has yet to elaborate on what those opportunities may include. The company has said that users of the Blogger software and hosting service will not see any immediate changes.
