Go Daddy to Advertise in Super Bowl

November 28, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Domain registrar and Web hosting provider Go Daddy (godaddy.com) CEO says the company has once again decided to advertise in this year’s Super Bowl and is currently in the process of getting its commercial concepts approved.

Bob Parsons writes in his blog (bobparsons.com/SuperBowl2008Decision.html) that the company has decided to take a different approach to previous years and is sending in storyboards highlighting each proposed ad rather than filmed commercials to FOX’s standards and practices group for approval.

“So far we’ve submitted several hilarious concepts only to have them rejected,” writes Parsons. “I’m confident that each concept would have been approved prior to the Janet Jackson episode during the 2004 Super Bowl. On the plus side, the FOX standards and practices group is very quick to let us know what they think of our creative. On the downside, we’ve yet to send them anything they find acceptable.”

Two concepts Parsons highlighted in his blog was one featuring the Go Daddy Girls in a restroom with a cameo by Booth Colemen and another one that was a parody of Marilyn Monroe’s famous white dress scene from the movie “The Seven Year Itch.” According to FOX, both creatives were rejected because they were in “poor taste,” which Parsons says is part of the point with a Go Daddy Super Bowl ad.

Earlier this month Go Daddy partnered with Research In Motion and integrated Go Daddy email accounts with BlackBerry Internet Service, enabling quick and easy access to email on the go.
