(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web host and domain name provider  Go Daddy (www.godaddy.com) is the title sponsor of an upcoming college football bowl game that will now be known as “the GoDaddy.com Bowl” (www.godaddybowl.com).

According to Go Daddy’s announcement this week, it will be the sponsor for the NCAA bowl game in which the top teams from the Mid-American and Sun Belt conferences will compete at the Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama, drawing an expected 40,000 fans.

“We thought it was about time Go Daddy had its own bowl game — the GoDaddy.com Bowl has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?” Go Daddy founder and chief executive officer Bob Parsons said in a statement. “Football is one of America’s favorite pastimes and if college football fans are anything, they are passionate and loyal. We like that.”

The January 6, 2011, GoDaddy.com Bowl will be broadcast live on ESPN starting at 7pm CST. It had been known as the GMAC Bowl for the past decade.

“We’re excited to have a powerhouse like Go Daddy behind Mobile’s biggest event of the year,” GoDaddy.com Bowl President Jerry Silverstein said in a statement. “Go Daddy stepped up big time for this sponsorship, which is good for all of us. Our bowl holds the record for the highest-scoring game in college football bowl game history. We are looking forward to another marquee matchup.”

In an effort to make a difference in the local community, Go Daddy is letting around 3,000 Mobile-area children see the game for free in the GoDaddy.com Bowl “Kids Zone”.

Getting its name included in the name of a bowl game is Go Daddy’s latest effort to promote the company – a skill that it has become well-known for given the success of its Super Bowl ads.

In an effort to help its customers launch their own online advertising campaigns, Go Daddy recently created a marketing product for small businesses called “AdSpace”. This service lets users create an online ad campaign simply by submitting their key information to Go Daddy’s search marketing experts, and the service would be advertised on Google within 24 hours.

In recent years, Go Daddy has expanded its operation far beyond its home state into Colorado, Iowa, as well as abroad, into Canada, and countries in Europe and Asia. The company has donated more than $2.7 million to charities this year, including aid for Tennessee flood victims.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Go Daddy recently went up for sale, and The WHIR recently reported on speculation over who the highest bidder could be.
