Go Daddy Sponsors Honda IndyCar Broadcast

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Domain registrar and web hosting provider Go Daddy (www.godaddy.com) announced on Thursday it is an official sponsor for the Canadian broadcast of this Sunday’s inaugural Honda IndyCar Series race in Toronto

Broadcast on Canada’s TSN network, the eleven-turn temporary street circuit runs through downtown Toronto, passing the city’s National Trade Center and National Soccer Stadium.

The company was previously a TSN broadcast sponsor for last August’s NASCAR Napa Auto Parts 200 in Montreal.

“Canadian fans are revved up for this Toronto race,” says Go Daddy CEO and founder Bob Parsons. “People familiar with the sport in Canada are thrilled about the return of open-wheel racing to Toronto and we’re happy to help make it happen.”

Indy racing is making its return to Toronto have a year-long absence. The annual summer Indy race, known as the Molson Indy Toronto and the Molson Grand Prix of Toronto, ran from 2001 to 2007, until Molson ended its sponsorship in 2007.

Steelback Brewery replaced Molson as the title sponsor, but the Grand Prix was cancelled in early 2008 after a merger between Champ Car and the Indy Racing League led to scheduling conflicts.

In July 2008, Andretti Green Promotions purchased the Toronto Grand Prix assets and signed Honda Canada for a multi-year sponsorship deal, bringing Indy racing back to Toronto.

Go Daddy Girl and IndyCar driver Danica Patrick will compete in the Honda Indy Toronto. She is currently fifth in the IndyCar Championship points’ race.

More recently, Go Daddy’s latest “Speeding” commercial was pulled after airing once during NBC’s US Open broadcast of the Indy race.

The domain registrar says that NBC representatives stopped airing the ad as to not “insult” Lexus, who was the exclusive broadcast sponsor for the event.

The Honda Indy Toronto broadcast will air in Canada on TSN at 1 p.m. EST Sunday.
