(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Domain registrar and Web hosting provider Go Daddy (www.godaddy.com) announced on Friday it is pulling its “Movies” commercial out of the Super Bowl after facing issues related to licensing arrangements with various movie studios.

The ad, which the company began previewing on its website last week, features Danica Patrick reprising the roles of Marilyn Monroe in the The Seven-Year Itch and Jennifer Beals in Flashdance.

In the press release, Go Daddy says it was “not able to reach a suitable agreement with each studio and therefore cannot air “Movies” (broadcast or Internet versions).”

“We had received very positive feedback about our Movies commercial and are disappointed it won’t air in the Super Bowl,” says Bob Parsons, CEO and founder of Go Daddy. “If we are ever able to work this out with the film studios, we’d love to air both the broadcast and Internet-Only versions of Movies.”

In its place, Go Daddy has decided to use a commercial called Spa, available for download here, which will be aired during the 1st Quarter of the Super Bowl.

The ad depicts Patrick getting a spontaneous Go Daddy Girl audition from her masseuse in the middle of a massage.

Additionally, Go Daddy’s “News” ad will air during the 4th Quarter of the Super Bowl.

Meanwhile, the company’s “Lola” ad, which was rejected by CBS for the Super Bowl, was approved by NBC and will air during Sunday’s NHL hockey broadcast.
