Go Daddy Donates $500K to Aid Haiti Quake Victims

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Domain registrar and web hosting provider Go Daddy (www.godaddy.com) announced on Wednesday it is donating $500,000 to help victims of Tuesday’s devastating earthquake in Haiti.

Go Daddy CEO and founder Bob Parsons initiated the move immediately after learning about the tragedy. The magnitude 7.0MW earthquake centered about 16 miles from Port-au-Prince, claiming the lives of over 100,000 people.

“The moment we saw the news, we knew we had to help,” says Parsons. “This devastating earthquake killed thousands and thousands of people and conditions for survivors are deplorable. Those of us not affected by this disaster need to step up – we at Go Daddy feel it’s our duty to lead the way.”

Go Daddy donated a check Wednesday for $500,000 to Hope for Haiti (www.hopeforhaiti.com), an organization committed to making a difference in Haiti by focusing on education, nutrition and healthcare.

The domain registrar has previously provided financial support for victims of natural disasters, including contributions to Thailand tsunami victims in 2004, Katrina hurricane victims in 2007 and Iowa flood victims in 2008.

In 2009, Go Daddy donated nearly $2.5 million to a range of charities, including those aimed at medical research, domestic violence and education. Go Daddy has more than 7.5 million customers around the world, including in Haiti.
