(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Domain registrar and web hosting provider Go Daddy (www.godaddy.com) announced on Tuesday that it contributed $1.7 million in charitable donations during 2008, beating the company’s record last year of $1.4 million.
“Our company had its best year ever,” says Bob Parsons, CEO of Go Daddy. “Considering our country is in the midst of an economic recession now is exactly the time to help out good organizations and people less fortunate.”
During the past two years, the company has made many donations to local, regional, national and international charities, including those that focus on domestic violence, child abuse, disabled children, teenage homelessness, Parkinson’s research, breast cancer and animal shelters.
The company has contributed to such organizations as The Arizona Children’s Association, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Make A Wish Foundation, Toys for Tots, Arizona Humane Society, Phoenix Zoo, Chrysalis, HomeBase Youth Services and The Salvation Army.
In addition to monetary donations, Go Daddy employees have also lent their own time this year.
Some 750 Go Daddy employees, family and friends turned out for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International’s Walk to Cure Diabetes in Tempe, Arizona, while Parsons and the Go Daddy corporate team donated $135,000 to the organization.
According to the press release, Parsons, a Purple Heart Marine, is “strongly committed to supporting injured military personnel.”
In October, Go Daddy sponsored “The Ride for Semper Fi” charity bicycle ride to benefit the Injured Marines Semper Fi Fund, which is a four-day, 430-mile trek from Scottsdale, Arizona to Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California.
The company has also helped in passing two significant pieces of legislation into federal law, which both focus on maintaining Internet safety.
The first law protects children from online sexual predators by banning the transfer of live images of child abuse via the Internet, increasing funding to combat child exploitation online, and providing Internet companies easier measures to shut down online predators targeting children.
The second law prevents online pharmacies from selling controlled drugs without a valid prescription.
