Go Daddy's newly banned Super Bowl
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Domain registrar and Web hosting provider Go Daddy (www.godaddy.com) announced on Thursday that its latest Super Bowl commercial was not approved to air in this year’s Super Bowl XLIV CBS broadcast.
In the press release, Go Daddy does not explain why the ad was disapproved by CBS.
The 30-second commercial, currently available for view on Go Daddy’s site, is narrated by Go Daddy girl Danica Patrick.
The ad features a character named “Lola,” an effeminate, former football star who finds a new career in fashion design when he launches a Go Daddy-hosted online store.
“Of the five commercial concepts we submitted for approval this year, this never would’ve been my pick for the one that would not be approved,” says Go Daddy CEO and founder Bob Parsons. “This is about a guy who starts an online business and hits the jackpot. I just don’t think ‘Lola’ is offensive, in fact we didn’t see this one coming – we were absolutely blindsided.
Earlier this week, Go Daddy posted on its site two teaser trailers of additional Super Bowl ads.
The ads feature Danica Patrick reprising the roles of Marilyn Monroe in the The Seven-Year Itch and Jennifer Beals in Flashdance.
