(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Following a successful Statement on Auditing Standards Number 70 Type II audit, colocation and dedicated server provider Global Net Access (www.gnax.net) has announced it is retaining the services of accounting and consulting firm Richter & Company (www.richterandco.com) to provide long-term maintenance on its SAS-70 certification.
According to GNAX’s Thusday announcement, the contract calls for a preliminary review to be completed by April, and the Type II certification to be completed by September 2009. The contract also requires an annual review forre-certification over the next 4 years.
Developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the SAS 70 Type II certification is the part of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 that concerns data center operations and internal controls. While the Sarbanes-Oxley act was originally intended for the financial services industry (in response to a number of major corporate and accounting scandals such as those affecting Enron, Tyco International, WorldCom, and others), the SAS 70 element of it has become known as a high standard for evaluating outsourced data center solutions.
GNAX notes that service organizations and service providers must demonstrate that they have adequate controls and safeguards when they host or process data belonging to their customers in today’s economy.
“Getting this completed is something we feel is the next logical step in our company’s growth”, GNAX president Jeff Hinkle said in a statement. “We’ve been fortunate to have already documented our processes for such discerning medical facilities as Emory and Piedmont, who vigorously reviewed our facility credentials and processes. As a result, we feel that we’ve already done the large majority of the work and wanted to put prospective Enterprise users at ease. We also wished to comply with the ever-increasing standards of our business culture”.
Headquartered in Atlanta, GNAX runs its primary operations out of AtlantaNAP (www.atlantanap.com), however, it also has recently expanded its operations to Dallas. Its dedicated server line, NetDepot (www.netdepot.com), operates more than 2,000 client servers.
