(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Longtime Certification Authority and online security solutions provider GlobalSign (www.globalsign.co.uk) will be showcasing the latest SSL technology and its new “Website Passport” service – a trust enhancing solution for website owners with universal appeal across all e-commerce sectors.

According to GlobalSign’s Monday announcement, it will be exhibiting its Extended Validation SSL technology, as well as its new website trust service at London’s Ecommerce Expo 2010 (www.ecommerceexpo.co.uk) on October 19 and 20.

GlobalSign’s newly developed and soon to be publicly launched Website Passport technology is designed to provide instant credibility for websites by delivering key business credentials at the click of a button. “A website owner has about five seconds to establish trust if they want to minimize abandonment,” GlobalSign managing director Paul Tourret said in a statement. “GlobalSign’s Website Passport technology is an exciting new development that allows website owners to instantly gain credibility.”

Websites can prominently display a click to view a “fingerprint” seal on any of their pages. When clicked, a passport will appear displaying website credentials. Tourret said that site owners can customize their passport, showing business credentials that will best appeal to their particular customer base using such standards as Google Safe Browsing and community-based website reputation ratings from Web of Trust (www.mywot.com).

“From a website owners’ perspective it is a convenient way to display easy to understand, highly standardized website and company information on all Web pages using minimal space,” Tourret stated. “Furthermore the GlobalSign Passport delivers an App-based Web service platform that allows us to offer an unlimited marketplace of third party services to further enhance trust.”

The Passport not only confirms that the site is authentic and owned by a legitimate organisation, but GlobalSign reports that it also meets and exceeds government legislation and guidelines that apply to companies trading on the Internet regarding the display of certain minimum information.

Representing the most significant advancement in how consumers identify a secure site since the inception of SSL in more than a decade, EV SSL activates the browser’s green address bar and the standard SSL “padlock” on secure websites. They also display advanced security and identity information such as the organisation name behind the website and the CA that issued the certificate to further assure visitors that the site is legitimate and that their personal information is fully secure.

To increase awareness of the importance of secure ecommerce, GlobalSign will be offering a 30-percent discount on its Extended Validation SSL Certificates to all who visit its booth at the Ecommerce Expo.

Earlier this month, GlobalSign partnered with malware scanning services from Web application security firm Armorize (www.armorize.comto deliver Armorize’s HackAlert service to qualifying GlobalSign SSL certificate customers.

Also in October, German hosting company Host Europe (www.hosteurope.de), the third-largest provider of Internet and hosting services in the German-speaking market, joined the GlobalSign Partner Program at the Platinum Partner level, with the intention of incorporating GlobalSign’s full range of SSL certificates into its hosting bundles and value-added service offerings. The newly formed partnership enables Host Europe’s customers to easily obtain, install and activate GlobalSign’s highly trusted 2,048-bit SSL security to secure their websites, transactions, logins and other next-generation online services.
