(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REIVEW) — SSL provider GlobalSign (www.globalsign.com) has released a free PDF signing tool that allows digital certificate users to test the technology to secure PDF documents. According to Tuesday’s announcement, the tool was developed to provide enterprises and individual users the ability to add digital signatures with little upfront investment.

The company says it has seen an increase in the number of organizations moving from traditional paper documents to electronic ones. Digital signatures offer increased security, a “greener” office environment and compliance with regulatory guidelines including CFR 21 Part 11, Florida Digital Signature and SOX.

“We are pleased to announce the availability of a free PDF Signing tool now accessible to the public to allow those wishing to explore digital signature technology in more detail to do so,” Lila Kee, vice president of product marketing, GlobalSign said in a statement. “GlobalSign’s PDF Signing tool provides an easy method of demonstrating to users how adding digital signatures to electronic documents such as PDF files can contribute to safer electronic commerce.”

The free PDF signing tool is a web-based wizard tool that requires an Internet Explorer browser, a digital certificate and a PDF document.

GlobalSign says electronic signatures have Federal acts that provide “organizations with further incentives to replace traditional wet-ink signatures with electronic signatures”, including Uniform Electronic Transaction Act and Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act.

GlobalSign recently launched its German-language website.
