GlobalSign Offers Multi-Year Secure Email Certificates

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — SSL certificate authority provider GlobalSign (www.globalsign.com) announced on Monday it has launched its new multi-year secure email certificate PersonalSign, a cryptographic digital certificate that secures email content and lets recipients know the true email identity of the sender.

The announcement follows GlobalSign’s recent partnership with SingleHop, which provides the Web host’s customers with the company’s SSL products.

Offering multi-year secure email certificates instead of one year certificates lets users renew less frequently, avoid the issues of an expiring certificate, and benefit from multi-year pricing discounts.

The launch comes at an opportune time, as rival certification authority Thawte, which is owned by VeriSign, recently announced it has discontinued its secure email certificates.

Secure email certificates can be installed in all popular email clients such as Microsoft Outlook, and allow email users to digitally sign and encrypt email.

Digitally signing an email also protects message integrity by ensuring the message has not been altered.

GlobalSign PersonalSign Certificates lets users  digitally sign Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access documents directly from Microsoft Office to prevent tampering of content and prove authorship.

GlobalSign also offers varying trust levels, incorporating more comprehensive identity verification,  for certificates designed for enterprises. This includes certificates for individuals and certificates issued to entire departments.

A managed PKI solution is designed for organizations managing multiple certificates, letting them issue high identity assurance certificates to many employees, suppliers, and extranet users for authentication, secure email, and document security services.

GlobalSign is now offering the PersonalSign 1 product with a three year validity period for $49.

The company offers a free 30 day trial of its secure email certificate, which lets users test out features and usability before purchasing.
