(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Certificate authority and security business GlobalSign announced on Monday that it had named Paul van Brouwershaven, the former CTO of European domain and SSL products distributor Networking4all its business development director for the EMEA region, charging him with accelerating the company’s expansion in Europe.

According to a notice posted on the Networking4all website, van Brouwershaven began the process fo leaving the company in November of 2011, after 10 years. His tenure officially ended on January 1 of this year.

GlobalSign says van Brouwershaven is passionate about the internet business, having worked in the online security and web hosting spaces for more than 10 years. The announcement refers to the company’s newest employee as a “trusted spokesperson to the media within the SSL world.”

“We are delighted to have Paul van Brouwershaven join our team here at GlobalSign,” says Paul Tourret, GlobalSign’s managing director for EMEA, quoted in the press release. “We worked closely with Paul as CTO of Networking4all and his high-level expertise in SSL and Digital Certificates, combined with experience in business development, will be of great value to the company in strengthening strategic partnerships and exploring new areas of growth.”

Better known in the European market, Networking4all has an established reseller program for distributing its SSL, domain and hosting products through reseller hosting firms.

GlobalSign says it expects the new role to reinforce the company’s position as a leading online security provider.

“I am delighted to join the business. GlobalSign is a leader in its field with a fantastic reputation and I look forward to introducing GlobalSign’s new revolutionary technologies, such as OneClickSSL for fully automated SSL activation, into some new and exciting markets,” says van Brouwershaven, also quoted in the announcement.

GlobalSign was one of several SSL certificate authorities targeted by hackers in 2011 with attacks intended to generate phony certificates that could be used in further misdeeds. The company, although it suspended issuing certs temporarily while it investigated a breach, says no certificates were mis-issued as a result of the attacks.

Last week, the WHIR ran an email Q&A with GlobalSign CEO Steve Waite, who addressed the attacks, and some of the general concerns around SSL security.
