Global Netoptex Hosts BitTorrent
June 27, 2006 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed services provider Global Netoptex (globalnetoptex.com) announced on Tuesday it has signed an agreement with peer-assisted file distribution platform BitTorrent, to provide an IP transit Internet address for streaming videos at one gigabit per second.
By using transit agreements with tier one providers, GNi provides BitTorrent with a single connection that peers into six networks with consistently fast connections. GNi also acts as a network operations center at the 365 Main data center in San Francisco providing 24-hour on-site technical support. As a result, GNi’s service level agreement with BitTorrent guarantees near 100 percent uptime.
“BitTorrent is emerging as a key player for distribution of video content over the Internet and needs bandwidth providers that can keep pace with our growth,” says Ashwin Navin, president and co-founder of BitTorrent. “GNi’s reliability and flexibility were key factors in our decision to work with them, so we can focus on the best user experience for our service.”
GNi offers multi-carrier and multi-homed Internet transit, managed services and 24-hour “remote hands” support to maximize uptime, eliminate points of failure and provide reliable service for applications. The managed services provider also guarantees “five nines” network availability as noted in the company’s service level agreements with clients such as Symantec, HP, the Oakland Raiders and Southern Cross.
