Global Crossing Opens Amsterdam Data Center

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Global IP solutions provider Global Crossing announced on Tuesday it has opened a new Amsterdam data center, from which it is providing virtual hosting solutions and hosted managed services.

The announcement follows recent news of Global Crossing’s expanding its data center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which features a new energy-efficient electrical subsystem.

Already housing clients such as Dimension Data, the data center is offering a range of services including monitoring, backup, security, server management and storage solutions.

The new data center is part of the company’s ongoing European hosted services strategy, which includes last year’s opening of the Docklands data center in London.

The Amsterdam data center’s expanded capabilities include virtual hosting services and storage solutions.

The company says the services will help it to “address the concerns of IT organizations, including availability and speed of access to data and the ability to share data securely inside and outside of the enterprise.”

“The opening of the Amsterdam data center means we now have 17 data centers strategically located to provide services to more than 700 customers at a time when information has never been more critical to the survival of a business,” says Ted Higase, managing director of EMEA at Global Crossing. “The explosive growth of data-intensive applications and an increasing reliance on information as a competitive differentiator have made data storage a central component of corporate strategies.”

Global Crossing says it is also planning to perform Statement on Auditing Standards 70 auditing reviews for its European data center facilities.

The company’s hosting solutions provide customers housing, equipment, storage, backup and monitoring, and managed services.

Global Crossing now has colocation facilities in 60 major cities around the world, and 17 world-class data centers in Latin America, the United States, United Kingdom, and the rest of Europe.
