September 30, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Custom fiber-optic network developer Geo (geo-uk.net) has connected its network to the newly expanded London data center by Netherlands-based, carrier-neutral data center provider Interxion (interxion.com).

According to an announcement by Geo and Interxion, Geo’s dedicated fiber optic network added to the Interxion London City data center’s existing portfolio of 26 carriers will give Interxion customers an even wider range of connectivity options, and Geo customers will now be able to house their mission-critical systems in a top UK colocation facility.

In April, Interxion added more than 4,000 square feet of equipped space to its London City data center, one of Interxion’s 23 carrier-neutral data centers located in 13 cities and 11 countries in Europe. The data center can provide 2kW of power per square meter with N+1 redundancy and free air-cooling as standard. More advanced customer requirements such as 2N redundancy configurations and high power density of up to 20kW per cabinet can also be set up as needed.

Geo’s UK fiber network is the newest legacy-free national duct and optical fiber network in the UK, covering more than 1,800 miles and connecting all the major commercial centers. In the nation’s capital, it runs deep through the London sewer system which traces its modern history back to the 19th Century. Its Geo.Metro service provides scalable 1 to 10 Gigabit Ethernet services or custom fiber-optic networks.

“The addition of Geo to our roster of connectivity partners comes at a very good time for both businesses,” Interxion UK managing director Greg McCulloch said in a statement. “Due to our location in the City, as well as our recent expansion, we are seeing increased interest in colocation space from financial, gaming and technology businesses who want highly secure ultra-fast fiber connections. Geo is extremely well equipped to meet their mission-critical requirements.”

According to Geo chief executive officer Chris Smedley, the Interxion site is the only high-quality facility in London with space available and 13 megawatts of power to deliver service to the company’s most demanding clients. “This is an ideal relationship for Geo as these are just the sort of customers looking for maximum security and maximum uptime fiber solutions,” Smedley said in a statement.
