New Zealand Introduces .geek.nz Domain

August 27, 2003 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- The New Zealand domain name registry yesterday introduced .geek.nz, the eleventh second level domain under the country code top level domain .nz.
The .geek.nz domain will appeal to the techie community, but can be registered by anyone on the same first come, first served basis as all other .nz Domains, said Richard Shearer of FreeParking.co.nz (freeparking.co.nz), one of the country's largest registrars.
FreeParking's price will be NZ$39.95 or about US$24 a year.
According to FreeParking, more than 400 .geek.nz domains were registered in the first 24 hours of eligibility.
The company also reported some hotly contested domains, including linux.geek.nz.
