GDIT Opens Data Center to House Homeland Security Services

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Systems integrator General Dynamics Information Technology (www.gdit.com) announced on Friday it has opened a new enterprise data center in Westminster, Colorado.

The facility will serve as the technology operations and maintenance infrastructure support program’s IT operations center on behalf of the Department of Homeland Security’s US Citizenship and Immigration Services, a contract General Dynamics was awarded in 2007.

The new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified operations center will meet the need for centralized, around-the-clock nationwide IT enterprise service support with enhanced network and security monitoring.

In addition to the jobs created during the construction and design of the facility, the data center will employ about 100 IT employees including service desk agents, IT security specialists, network engineers, systems engineers and system administrators for DHS as well as other GD clients.

“As the agency within the Department of Homeland Security that is responsible for overseeing the legal immigration of people into the United States, USCIS is vital in maintaining a secure homeland,” says S. Daniel Johnson, president of General Dynamics Information Technology. “The agency processes and verifies applications of those seeking to work and live in the United States, assists those seeking political or humanitarian asylum and manages applications of those seeking foreign adoptions. These functions require a secure, stable information technology infrastructure.”

This is General Dynamics Information Technology’s first dedicated data center.

According to the press release, General Dynamics built the facility from the “ground up”, including selecting the building, designing the layout and outfitting the operations center with the latest, state of the art technology.

The data center has room for expansion to meet the needs of any future programs that may require round the clock IT support and maintenance.
