GDCM Updates Management Solution

November 4, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — UK-based data center management solutions provider Global Data Center Management, or GDCM (www.gdcm.com) announced on Monday it has launched the latest version of its data center management solution, nlyte 5.0.

On its website, GDCM describes nlyte as a “sophisticated environment and strategic management system with reporting and business intelligence functionality, that determines how infrastructure and IT assets combine to create both the physical and virtual data center.”

With this solution, data center employees can see a complete view across the infrastructure from power and cooling, to virtual domains, hosts and business applications and monitor key performance indicators including real time power and live feed data. Staff can also visualize the entire data center estate and manage and model data center migrations, consolidations and changes, says the company.

According to GDCM’s most recent announcement, nlyte 5.0 will help companies improve service delivery, reduce costs, eliminate risks associated with the high rate of change within the data center and enhance inter-departmental communication.

“I’m proud to unveil a significant new chapter in the development of GDCM’s product portfolio,” says Michael Evans, CEO of GDCM. “Getting the most productivity and cost savings from data center infrastructure is the goal of every CIO, and nlyte 5.0 is the most effective solution to optimize existing IT assets before investing in new machines, software and cooling systems.”

The company says it has “transformed nlyte from a data center planning and modeling tool into a strategic operations management solution,” and some of the new features include power management features enabling data center staff to see the actual, average and peak power consumption of their data centers as well as comparisons of actual consumption versus planned consumption; an enhanced floor planner based on a CAD-style graphical interface and including details like cage representations, air conditioning efficiency ratings and floor and wall thickness; open service bus architecture in addition to open API’s, and direct connectors for database-to-database integration and a bulk data loader.

According to reports on Data Center Knowledge, GDCM is expanding into the US with its data center management software “after building a client base of some of the world’s largest enterprise customers from its home base in Great Britain.” GDCM currently has North American offices in California, New York and Dallas.
