Fujitsu Debuts PRIMERGY CX1000 Cloud Computing Platform

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — With the promise of revolutionizing data center economics, technology provider Fujitsu (www.fujitsu.com) has launched the PRIMERGY Cloud eXtension server, a new massive server that the company said provides unprecedented levels of scale-out capability, and is ideal for cloud computing environments.

Designed from the ground up to deliver as much computing power per square foot as possible at the lowest-possible price, the PRIMERGY CX1000 server packs 38 server nodes into a single rack. The company estimates that this configuration provides a minimum savings of 20 percent in power and cooling in comparison to a standard rack server assembly.

According to the announcement this week, the PRIMERGY CX1000 server sets new efficiency standards by optimizing the operating cost drivers of power, heat and space.

“Cloud computing demands have caught data center operators in a vicious circle of performance and cost,” Fujitsu America server and solutions senior vice president Richard McCormack said in a statement. “Today, the battles are being won and lost on the plains of price-performance. With the PRIMERGY CX1000 server, we’re introducing a solution that goes beyond the scale-out performance envelope of rack servers — without blowing budgets — which is especially compelling in cloud computing environments.”

The PRIMERGY CX server line adds a new class of server to the current Fujitsu x86 line-up of PRIMERGY blade, rack and tower models, and serves as a cornerstone of the overall Fujitsu Infrastructure-as-a-Service strategy as it moves toward a service-oriented, platform-based delivery model for IT services.

The PRIMERGY CX1000 server also features the latest Intel 5600 processor series, which delivers unprecedented levels of processing power, as well as efficiency.

While it offers premium services, PRIMERGY CX1000 also comes with a relatively high price tag starting at $89,866, which really isn’t that expensive considering that includes 38 server nodes. can be ordered now and will ship at the end of this month. It is also backed by comprehensive support from the Fujitsu worldwide services organization, including full planning, design, implementation and management of complex IT infrastructures.
