Foundry Launches Compact, Low-Priced Router

March 12, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Enterprise and service provider switching, routing and Web traffic management solution provider Foundry Networks Inc. (FoundryNetworks.com) announced on Wednesday that it has introduced a next-generation Internet-class router designed to deliver a full range of routing services, including IPv6 services.

The new NetIron 4802 router, says Foundry, is a stackable platform with 48 10/100 and 2 mini-GBIC Gigabit Ethernet ports. The device takes advantage of Foundry’s continued investment in network infrastructure and JetCore ASICs for its base of service provider and enterprise customers. Using a 500 Mhz PowerPC RISC processor, 512 MB SDRAM and 4 MB Ternary Content Addressable Memory, says Foundry, the NetIron 4802 router provides fast route processing, millions of BGP routes and wire-speed extended access control lists.
