October 29, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colombian-born, former web-hosting executive Alvaro Albarracin is setting his sights on creating a new entertainment video site after acquiring the domain name “E.tv,” (www.e.tv) which Albarracin hopes to rival other popular video social networks like YouTube, Justin.tv, BlogTV.com, and MetaCafe.
According to former Dialtone Internet (www.dialtoneinternet.com) chief executive officer Albarracin’s announcement late last week, E.tv will distinguish itself from the competition by rewarding users for posting popular videos. E.tv is now holding a contest to reward its top-rated video creators up to $300 in cash.
“We like to reward the people who can create such videos and have the capacity to bring large audiences to watch their videos,” Albarracin said in a statement. “Our users do not have to leave or delete their existing YouTube or MetaCafe video channels. We have a ‘Video Grabber’ that allows them to grab their videos to E.tv and to benefit from E.tv traffic and money contests.”
E.tv will focus primarily on entertainment videos because of the growing demand for entertainment and celebrity content, however, the company expects that with the global economic and political unrest across the globe, E.tv will give video creators a venue for expressing political opinions.
Announced in Hialeah, Florida, known for its Cuban community and part of the Miami metropolitan area, much of E.tv’s current content is divided between English and Spanish, reflecting the rapid growth in connectivity of Latin American markets made possible by projects like Miami’s NAP of the Americas.
Last week’s E.tv announcement followed other social content network announcements including Beautiful Stranger.TV (www.beautifulstranger.tv), a social networking website and online video channel based on fashion and style backed by online service provider Internap Network Services’s (www.internap.com) content delivery network.
