Flicks Software Fights Password Sharing

April 11, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet software developer Flicks Software (Flicks.com) announced on Thursday that it has released its WebQuota ISP, a Windows Web server software solution designed to allow hosting customers to use cookie technology to identify users who share user names and passwords.

The new software includes cookie-based features for limiting concurrent logins. Traditionally, says Flicks, concurrent logins were identified by monitoring the user names and originating IP addresses of Web site visitors. But, because some proxy hosts revolve IP addresses mid-session, legitimate users often appear to be using more than one IP address.
