March 2, 2006 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — UK Web hosting provider Fasthosts (fasthosts.co.uk) announced on Thursday the results of its recent SMEs On The Web survey which revealed that nearly half of all small and medium sized businesses do not submit their Web sites to search engines.
This is particularly disconcerting when paired with the findings in which 66 percent of Internet users and potential customers admitted to only looking at the first two pages of search results.
These two findings indicate that most small businesses may never be discovered online, resulting in more lost revenue for every day they are not visible on the Web. Fasthosts asked more than 2,000 SMBs about their search engine practices, attitudes towards sponsored links and preferred search engines.
“I was amazed to see that SMEs are not considering how much they personally use search engines when it comes to the importance of ranking for their own company,” says Andrew Michael, CEO of Fasthosts. “If you are not listed on Google, your Web site might as well not be online.”
