(WEB HOST INDSUTRY REVIEW) — Technology product wholesaler Ingram Micro announced this week that it has partnered with cloud hosting provider Rise to provide Ingram’s resellers in the UK with a portfolio of cloud IT solutions.
Based in the UK and US, Rise is the channel sales division of the web hosting provider Fasthosts. Rise was introduced in March of 2010 by the company. At Microsoft’s Global Hosting Summit in March of 2011, Rise was named the company’s Hyper-V Cloud Partner of the Year.
It’s a partnership that has the potential to drive enormous demand for Rise. Ingram Micro serves as distribution partner to nearly 170,000 solution providers, and serves resellers in more than 100 countries, making it the world’s largest distributor of technology. Along with the wholesale technology products at the core of its business, the company provides resellers with access to marketing programs, outsourced logistics services, technical support and financial services.
Ingram says the deal provides its UK resellers with “a complete aggregated cloud portfolio,” enabling them to deliver a broad selection of IT solutions as a service to end users. The announcement is less specific about what a “complete portfolio” of cloud solutions includes.
The cloud solutions section on Rise’s website (probably a good indicator of the sorts of solutions being offered via this partnership) suggest that the company’s cloud solutions include disaster recovery, backup, applications, storage, hosting and email, as well as firewalls.
“We’re delighted to begin a partnership with Rise in the UK and it puts us in a position to deliver aggregated cloud services for resellers to supply to the market,” says Ingram Micro managing director Matt Sanderson, quoted in the press release. “We recognize that cloud adoption can be different for each organization based upon the application type, the customer starting point, the complexity of integration between systems, along with external issues such as regulatory requirements. The collaboration between the two companies means that we can now provide all application and infrastructure deployment options from on-premise through to hosted, private cloud and SaaS under one roof. By bringing all of our expertise together Ingram and Rise can offer a higher level of service experience to all of our reseller and vendor partners.”
