Social network site Facebook (www.facebook.com) announced on Thursday that it has named Ken Patchett as the manager of its new data center.
The company first revealed in January it is constructing a 117,000 square foot data center in Prineville, Oregon.
Patchett previously served at Google, where he supervised the company’s data center campus in The Dalles, Oregon.
He has also held positions at Compag and Microsoft as part of the company’s network operations team.
“The people of Prineville have been so welcoming to Facebook and I look forward to working with the community going forward,” says Patchett. “With my previous experience in The Dalles, I have seen what the presence of a data center can do for a community and we look to have similar results here in Prineville. We have a lot to do to bring our energy efficient data center online early next year, and continue to be committed to hiring as many local people as possible to build and operate the facility.”
The appointment marks the second member of Google’s data center staff to be hired by the social network site. Facebook data center engineer Amir Michael is also originally from the Google data center team.
