Unified communications software developer eZuce has partnered with Open-Xchange to provide the functionality of a hardware-based IP PBX system using an open-source, software-based approach.
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Open source email and collaboration solutions provider Open-Xchange (www.open-xchange.com) has partnered with unified communications software developer eZuce (www.ezuce.com) to provide Open-Xchange users with the functionality of a hardware-based IP PBX system through eZuce’s open-source, software-based approach.
According to eZuce’s announcement this week, the combination of Open-Xchange and eZuce’s open-source UC solution, openUC, provides communications features such as voice, video, instant messaging, presence, conferencing, collaboration, unified messaging, email, call center, calendar and task management.
“This is a terrific opportunity to build on the Open-Xchange collaboration software,” Open-Xchange chief executive officer Rafael Laguna said. “eZuce serves similar market segments with open voice and unified communications making us natural partners. We’re already seeing a good reception with partners and customers who are interested in our add-on capabilities.”
It is also able to support organizations ranging in size from 50 to 10,000 users, making it a viable option for enterprises, educational and governmental institutions wishing to have access to their data anytime, anywhere using various devices.
By repurposing existing IT infrastructure, openUC minimizes costs for enterprises who use single-vendor vertically-integrated solutions and ensures a migration strategy for existing IP PBX systems, according to the announcement.
“Combining our unified communications software with Open-Xchange makes it possible for enterprises to upgrade their existing legacy systems without compromising performance,” eZuce chief executive officer and co-founder Martin Steinmann said. “Customers can protect their investment in existing IT solutions while advancing to next-generation collaboration tools without limiting their options from Microsoft or other single vendor solutions.”
This solution, with its complete open communication and collaboration portfolio, is available to reseller partners, system integrators, and managed service providers, who can oversee the installation, service, and support of the solutions for their customers.
Open-Xchange recently announced it will host its second worldwide partner event on November 4, 2010 in Cologne, Germany, where experts will discuss “Mega-trends” in cloud computing, SaaS and mobility.
