Exelon Selects Digex for Managed Hosting

June 17, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed hosting provider Digex Incorporated (Digex.com) announced on Monday that electric utility supplier to more than five million customers, Exelon (ExelonCorp.com) has chosen Digex to host and manage its online initiatives, including the consolidation of a number of brands and customer service opportunities under one banner.

The product of the October 2000 merger between Unicom Corporation and PECO Energy Company, Exelon is one of the nation?s largest electric utilities, with more than $15 billion in annual revenues.

The company has chosen to consolidate its various Web sites, including its energy delivery sites, into the ExelonCorp.com site to avoid duplication and give its online operations a common look and feel. Scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2002, the site will serve as a customer communications vehicle, including such services as online billing, service options, account access and general information.

“The Internet is becoming an increasingly important and common channel to reach our consumers,” says Mark Walton, manager of ebusiness services at Exelon. “As an effective communication vehicle, we realized that we need our online options to be convenient and available. We chose Digex to help us consolidate our online operations because it?s a top-tier managed hoster with a proven track record.”

Digex will host several other Exelon initiatives, including an information-based environmental project community site (BarriePark.org), an electric deregulation information site (ComedPowerPath.com) and sites related to the company?s unregulated business (ExelonEnterprises.com).

The Exelon environment, says Digex, is configured on a multi-server platform and supported Digex?s SmartServices suite of managed hosting services and features for security, backup, reporting, administration and monitoring. The Digex hosting solution is supported by the facilities-based WorldCom global network.
