August 19, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Information and communications technology provider Evolution (evolution.co.uk) announced on Tuesday it has completed the design, project management and installation of a £6 million data center in Reading, UK for IT services provider Netstore (netstore.co.uk).

The 1,804 square foot data center will double Netstore’s data storage capacity while supporting the company’s projected growth of its managed services division and colocation facilities.

“The deployment of our second data centre and colocation facility reflects a significant increase in business from within London, where demand for capacity and power is outstripping availability,” says Ian Cross, CIO for Netstore. “In light of rising energy prices, our clients are seeking robust and cost-effective managed services and storage solutions. With this in mind, operational sustainability was at the forefront during the design and build of our data center.”

Netstore says it selected Evolution as its ICT partner to build the facility after the company demonstrated that it could collaborate with Netstore to build a physical structure that would help boost the energy efficiency of the data center.

Evolution also proved it had the experience and industry relationships in place to manage external contractors such as in the M&E, construction, and building services industry to allow a seamless lifecycle of the project.

Designed for maximum environmental and commercial efficiency, the facility features in-rack cooling using chilled water. Best applied in high density environments, this cooling technique maintains the facility’s temperature at about 73.4 F, significantly cutting energy costs.

The facility will also hold about 250 racks and feature a central building management system which monitors and reports in real-time the power, cooling, security and fire protection systems.

By specializing in specializes in the design, define, manage and build of data centers for end-user organizations and IT service providers, Evolution says it is able to deliver high density data center environments that are efficient, robust, secure, and built to the highest specification.

Netstore provides IT security solutions and outsourcing capabilities for mid-sized organizations, including back office ERP services, managed security services.

In addition to the Reading data center, Netstore has two other facilities across the UK, including its Northern and Southern technology centers.

There have been also several other data center openings in the UK, including DiscountASP.NET London data center opening in July, and iomart’s Nottingham facility opening this month.
