April 18, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Dedicated Web hosting specialist EV1Servers (ev1servers.net) announced on Monday that it had received approval to become an ICANN-accredited domain registrar. With its new status, the company is eligible to handle the .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info and .us domains.
“This is great news for both EV1 and our customers,” says Robert Marsh, CEO of EV1Servers. “This project is part of our ongoing effort to support our customers’ businesses.”
EV1Servers says it plans to introduce an enhanced domain registration system by the second quarter of 2005. The new system will feature DNS management and URL forwarding, and will be available to new users and owners of domains handled through the OpenSRS platform. The company says it will also offer an integrated reseller interface for domain names, SSL certificates and Web site building software.
EV1, which sells domains for $6.49, is the latest host to attain accredited status. In recent months, some of the industry’s largest players have become ICANN-accredited registrars, enabling them to cut their domain name registration costs by bypassing third-party wholesalers such as Tucows (tucows.com) or Go Daddy (godaddy.com), which sell domains at a minimum price of roughly $6.50.Previously a reseller of Tucows’ domain name registration services, EV1 says it plans to use the company’s Open Hosted Registrar Service registrar platform to provide domain registration and additional services such as DNS, SSL and site builder software as soon as the accreditation process is completed.
EV1 has shut down its domain registration services in anticipation of the switch, and is processing renewals manually.
