Newly introduced WHD.local events are designed to provide a venue for regional ICT companies to meet with industry colleagues and learn about current hosting trends. There are 10 local events planned.
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — After six years as Europe’s premiere Web hosting industry event, WebhostingDay has been given the new name, “WorldHostingDays”, or WHD, to account for the show’s substantial development and growth, according to organizers.
The new name also helps convey that topics will extend beyond pure Web hosting, and to complementary industries that are becoming more important to the hosting sector, according to WHD organizer Thomas Strohe. Known as a major force in the hosting industry, Strohe, in addition to his WHD responsibilities, is chief executive officer of European Web hosting and server solutions provider intergenia (www.intergenia.de).
“The show already achieved the status of the world’s largest hosting event in 2009; therefore it is a logical consequence to move ahead and modify the concept accordingly,” Strohe said in a statement.
Changes to WHD go far beyond the name alone. The next WHD, scheduled for March 22 to 25, 2011, will include an additional conference day, and the event will be held in a new location, Europa-Park.
Strohe also announced spin-off events: WHD.local and WHD.asia.
Smaller and more focused than its parent event, WHD.local is designed to be a one-day gathering of regional ICT companies, providing a venue for learning about current hosting affairs, and the opportunity to meet with industry colleagues. While WHD’s focus is on addressing a broad audience, WHD.local is expected to draw in between 50 and 150 visitors, largely made up of local professionals, and presentations will be tailored to local markets.
The first WHD.asia event will be held in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, and provide an opportunity for attendees to meet important industry colleagues from Asian ICT companies and learn about the Asian market. There is a focus encourage European companies to introduce themselves, or to strengthen their relationships with organizations in the Asian hosting and ICT community.
