(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — European web hosting provider OVH will expand into North America through a data center in Montreal, according to a report by the Montreal Gazette on Friday.

In August, rumors surfaced that OCH would hire about 20 technicians and marketing employees in Montreal. On Friday, sources confirmed the plan, the report says.

The report says that OVH is based in Roubaix, France, and operates 100,000 servers at its six European data centers. It provides localized services in Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, UK, Ireland and Finland.

In addition to web hosting, cloud computing, VoIP and domain name registration, OVH provides server design and manufacture, and server ventilation and water-cooling systems, according to the report.

For a French company, it makes sense that OVH would use Montreal as a gateway to North America since it is a French-speaking city. It is also the base for one of Canada’s larger web hosting providers, iWeb.
