The New York City POP is part of OVH's large and high-capacity network, for which it has deployed Infinera's
Network provider Infinera announced on Monday that European hosting giant OVH had deployed the company’s DTN-X platform, adding 500 Gigabit per second super-channels to its Pan-European network.
As one of the largest hosting providers in the world – the company manages more than 150,000 dedicated servers across 11 data centers in 10 European cities in seven countries – OVH has a significant demand for network capacity. Infinera says the new DTN-X platform technology will enable the hosting provider to increase network capacity buy up to 10 times what it previously offered in some areas.
According to the press release announcing the deal, OVH will deploy multiple terabits of optical transmission capacity across its optical network, a move designed to support growing capacity demands from its dedicated server and cloud hosting customers.
Infinera says OVH customers frequently require large amounts of bandwidth on short notice, a fact that drives the appeal of the DTN-X solution, which combines integrated OTN switching and 500 GBps long-haul long haul super-channels, enabling OVH to make more efficient use of its long-haul capacity while also having the ability to quickly deploy large amounts of bandwidth for customers.
“We’ve chosen an innovative technology leader, offering the best solution on the market to meet our capacity, flexibility and service lead time requirements,” said Octave Klaba, CEO at OVH. “We continue to be impressed by Infinera’s PIC technology and the DTN-X platform – from significantly simplifying our operations and reducing the time to deploy bandwidth to fundamentally lowering our total cost of ownership.”
OVH is likely to see its demands for capacity increase dramatically in the coming months. Earlier in January OVH announced its arrival in North America, as it opened the doors on a Montreal, Canada data center it says will have the capacity to house 360,000 servers, once fully built out.
