August 16, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Verio (verio.com) said last Friday that euro2004.com, the official Web site for the UEFA Euro 2004 Football Championships, received more than 40 million online visits during the tournament, which concluded in July. Verio, an official IT partner for the tournament, provided the technology supporting the site.
According to Verio, visitors came from 230 countries, 45 percent from Europe, 20 percent from North America and 27 percent from Asia.
Verio said its global network of caching infrastructure and data centers helped the site deliver “flawless performance” to users throughout the event, especially during spikes in traffic. Content was delivered in real time via Verio’s global Smart Content Delivery network.
