Equity Firms to Buy Web Host Arsys

December 19, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Private equity firms The Carlyle Group (thecarlylegroup.com) and Madrid, Spain-based Mercapital (mercaptial.com) announced on Tuesday they will acquire Spanish Web hosting and domain registrar Arsys (arsys.net) for about $230 million.

The two firms will equally invest to buy majority ownership in Logroño, Spain-based Arsys, while the Web host’s founders will hold a minority stake. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.

The Spanish Web host has more than 550,000 domains  registered, 170,000 customers and 250 employees.

Carlyle associate director Fernando Chueca said that Arsys “has huge potential” and is in an “exciting sector.”
