Equinix to Host Gigabit Peering Forum

September 2, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center and Internet exchange provider Equinix (equinix.com) announced this week that it will host the ninth Gigabit Peering Forum on September 14, 2004 in New York. The event features networking experts from Adelphia Communications, Akamai, CAIDA, Cisco, New York City Connect and others.

The Gigabit forum, says Equinix, is part of an ongoing series of events that feature educational sessions from industry experts as well as presentations focused on network and content peering methodologies and strategies. The event also includes programs to assist Internet service providers and large content players in establishing peering relationships. More than 100 networking professionals are expected to attend.

Equinix customers presenting at the forum include Patrick Gilmore, director, network strategy and support for Akamai, KC Claffy, director of CAIDA, and Colleen Shannon, senior Internet security researcher for CAIDA. The event will be moderated by Jay Adelson, founder and chief technology officer of Equinix, and Bill Norton, chief technical liaison for Equinix.

Norton, a recognized peering authority, will present a white paper, “The Business Case for Peering.” The presentation reviews current market prices for transport and exchange port fees, and will cover a refined model for transit that more accurately reflects transit commits and burst pricing.
