Data center operator Equinix announced on Tuesday it has partnered with colocation provider PT DCI to offers data center infrastructure and colocation services to customers in Indonesia.
The move expands Equinix’s data center footprint in Asia-Pacific, which currently consists of POP’s in Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, and Shanghai, where it recently opened its newest SH5 data center last month to meet the strong demand for premium data center services in China from global customers looking to expand in the market.
The Indonesian market is considered the largest economy in Southeast Asia and its government has worked hard to develop an economic environment that will support infrastructure development and growth.
According to Frost and Sullivan, Indonesia has the highest number of Internet users in Southeast Asia with an Internet growth of 400 percent over the last five years and rapid adoption of mobile Internet.
The partnership will see PT DCI build and run a new colocation facility in Jakarta, Indonesia, which will offer both local and global customers key services as part of Platform Equinix, including colocation, interconnection, support and monitoring.
Developed in multiple phases, the Jakarta facility will have a capacity of about 65,000 gross square feet and 1,250 cabinets upon completion of its first phase in the first quarter of 2013.
The partnership is significant for Equinix in that its global customers can now extend their market reach to Indonesia, while offering a comparable level of availability and reliability in the Southeast country through PT DCI as in its Equinix International Business Exchange data centers.
PT DCI customers also benefit from the partnership by gaining access to Equinix’s portfolio of data centers in 28 markets throughout the world, enabling them to broaden their data center reach to the Asia Pacific and around the world.
In addition, Platform Equinix gives Indonesian customers access to a comprehensive ecosystem of networks that allows them to choose from more than 4,000 enterprises, cloud, digital content and financial companies.
Equinix’s decision to team up with PT DCI was based primarily on the company’s strong ties to both the local and international financial markets, along with its ability to connect customers to the Indonesia Internet Exchange.
The companies will work closely with one another to guarantee that the new data center meets Equinix’s availability requirements and facility standards to deliver colocation services.
Equinix will provide ongoing operational support to Equinix customers to ensure quality customer experience and level of service.
“There is significant demand for next generation data centers in Indonesia as a result of exponential growth in data and network traffic,” said Clement Goh, managing director at Equinix South Asia. “We are pleased to partner with PT DCI in Indonesia to meet demand in the market. This partnership is aimed at strengthening Equinix’s unique proposition as a global data center services provider by extending operations into one of Asia’s fastest-growing markets.”
