(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator Equinix (www.equinix.com) announced on Monday it has named Frank van der Heijden the company’s director of managed services in the Netherlands.
The announcement follows Equinix acquisition of rival Switch and Data for approximately $689 million in cash and stock.
In this role, Van der Heijden will be responsible for expanding Equinix’s managed hosting services offering to meet growing demand in the Dutch market.
He will report to Michiel Eielts, Equinix’s general manager in the Netherlands.
Van der Heijden has previously served in executive and management roles at Transcom WorldWide, CendrisBSC, KPN, LogicaCMG, as well as his position as founder and CEO of network provider BaByXL BroadBand DSL (Tiscali).
Equinix entered the Dutch market in February 2008 with the acquisition of Netherlands-based data center operator Virtu Secure Webservices.
With the acquisition, the company gained data center facilities in Enschede and Zwolle by mid-2008.
Along with its third data center in Amsterdam, Equinix has a combined gross space of 100,000 square feet in the Netherlands.
“Equinix’s entry into the Dutch market has been well-received by both global and local clients,” says Michiel Eielts, general manager of Equinix in the Netherlands. “Our team consists of skilled professionals who fully support Equinix’s mission to protect and connect the world’s most important information assets. Frank is a welcome addition to the team.”
