Equinix Expands to Singapore Data Center

November 7, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Equinix (equinix.com), a provider of network-neutral data centers, said yesterday that it is expanding its Equinix GigE ExchangeT service to its Internet Business ExchangeT (IBXR) center in Singapore. The Equinix GigE ExchangeT service facilitates ISP and content peering amongst Equinix customers via a Gigabit Ethernet central switching fabric.

According to the company, the Equinix GigE Exchange allows customers to enjoy enhanced speed and reliability of ISP and content peering through the aggregation of carriers operating within Equinix IBX centers.

“With the growing popularity of broadband access services and localized content throughout Asia-Pacific, it is increasingly important for ISPs and content providers to have a high-performance, highly versatile, yet low cost IP interconnection strategy that is tailored to each individual market,” said Philip Koen, president and head of Asia Pacific for Equinix. “Equinix GigE Exchange provides a platform for flexible, low-cost and efficient connectivity to a wide array of networks and content companies, all within a secure, network-neutral environment. This direct interconnection between networks and content companies enables customers to deliver faster and more reliable performance to subscribers while lowering costs.”

The company said Microsoft (microsoft.com) is the first customer to use the service.
