Equinix Expands Australian Facility

November 8, 2006 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center and Internet exchange service provider Equinix (equinix.com) announced on Tuesday a US $3.8 million expansion of its Sydney Internet Business Exchange center in Australia.

The expansion comes after the company’s recently announced expansions in the US, continued strong demand from local and regional businesses in the Australian market and strong financial returns for Equinix’s Australian operations.

The expansion, which will increase the existing capacity of the Sydney IBX by 50 percent and add approximately 10,000 square feet and 400 cabinets, will enable Equinix to accommodate customers’ increasing business needs for collocation and connectivity to a large aggregation of network service providers. The Sydney IBX currently has more than 150 customers and it facilitates a critical role in the interconnection and peering infrastructure of many enterprises, content companies, networks and systems integrators. Equinix intends to begin placing customers in the expanded space at the Sydney IBX in April of 2007.

“Equinix continues to grow and we are looking at further expansion in the region through both building new data centers and forming strategic partnerships,” says Doug Oates, managing director of Equinix Australia. “This expansion in Australia is a response to demands from corporations seeking secure and robust facilities to deploy a convenient connectivity infrastructure by working under the same roof as wide diversity of telecommunications providers.”
