Todd Abrams, president and COO at Layered Technologies.
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — In the fourth cloud trends track session of day one at HostingCon 2010, Layered Technologies’ Todd Abrams delivered his presentation, “Enterprise Cloud Computing: Trends, Strategies and Best Practices”.
Cloud computing really doesn’t come into focus until “you think about what IT always needs,” Abrams prefaced his presentation.
He compared the response to the emergencing cloud technology to how many individuals felt that the Internet was just a fad when it first started, where he stressed that it is definitely “here to stay”.
The presentation was refreshing in that it didn’t feel like another blatant marketing pitch from a vendor.
Abrams was careful to discuss the trends, strategies and best practices of enterprise cloud technology without constantly referring to Layered Technologies’ own solutions.
He used real life case studies, such as KANA’s Web-based solution KANA 10, to illustrate how cloud computing trends and strategies that maximize IT budgets and infrastructure to support companies’ business goals.
Ultimately, he argued that it doesn’t matter what specific solution or combination of solutions a company uses so long as it works for their own unique needs.
In closing, Abrams said that customers should demand their cloud providers of a number of key differentiators in order to achieve an effective cloud solution, including consultation, choice, design, management/relentless support and partnerships.
